When I was sleeping around (and having a LOT of fun), I preferred the title of "Tart." I told the men I was with that I wasn't looking for a boyfriend, and that I didn't want them to call me, I didn't expect anything except a good night. Funny thing was, almost every one of them begged for my number the next day, and said they'd call (but didn't). It was like they were trying to take back the power from me, or trying to play a game I'd said I wasn't playing. Granted, this was 20 years ago, hopefully things have changed.

I've been trying to reclaim slut as the positive kind of promiscuous. I usually go by the name Chislut on sex-related sites and such. And I've often explained that just because I'm a slut does not make me indiscriminate!

However, that doesn't seem to really be working. :-)

Sensualist?

I use slut as a positive term. As in, yes! I'm single! Time to go slut around! It's fun because you're being promiscuous and going against the grain of female society, AND using the word they brand you in a positive light. Some of my fondest highschool memories are when girls (who were jealous) and boys (who couldn't get me) would call me a slut as I passed and I'd turn, give a big smile, and say thanks!

Tramp/skank however is my negative. As in, look at that tramp practically going down on every guy in this bar! Or, she's such a skank for cheating on her man like that! Tramp and skank are the derogatory, these women have very few morals and I would not want to be acquainted to them at all.

I also think being a slut means being in control of myself, knowing I'm protecting myself and enjoying life. Being a tramp/skank would mean having no understanding of sexual safety, my own body, rights, legalities, or anything - just being in it to whore around, which is unacceptable to me.

slutaholic-one who engages in wanton, self destructive sexual relationships

how come I can only think of the self destructive one? Maybe cause I love Dave's response...lover...and it's stuck in my head. I did think of sexoteric, but that's a name of a company so....hmmm.

Luka - "insecuritease" is brilliant!
I would suggest for the enlightened, self-gratifier to just use the word "lover"; as in, "I'm a lover, not a fighter." Maybe modify the term with open --> "I'm an open lover", but polyamorous is a term that already exists and sort of encompasses this idea, although with a more relationship-oriented bent. The idea that sex is simply about getting off, however, seems way simplistic. I don't think I've ever had a sexual encounter, even a one-night stand, that didn't involve some amount of emotional connection, even if just at the time. This is open for discussion, but I feel sex is always better when the other person gets off as well. The art of getting someone else off in addition to controlling the destiny of your own orgasm is what is practiced by lovers. Maybe I'm just old-fashioned, but this is the essence of practicing emotionally appropriate slutism. What term other than LOVER, really captures this ideal?

Well that kept me entertained as I wandered the aisles with my trolley.
I thought of plenty of analogies and even some wordplay about the human habit of screwing the planet but nothing I could condense into one word.

This is the best I can offer. Thinking about positive promiscuity conjured up the following:

Sexplorer, sextensive, moreplay, reciprocarnal, verifornication and fulfillander.

More negative connotations are covered by:

Fun-damage, motley screw, mislaid and insecuritease.

Unfortunately, just about every term I can think of for someone who has lots of sex is negative -- EXCEPT for guys. "Player", "gigolo", "Mr. Fantastic", "Casanova", and more -- all of them give the guy mad props for sleeping around, whether he's damaging himself and others or not. For the women, though, it's all negative. Slut, tramp, bitch, whore, roundheels, trollop -- none of them are positive words.

I'm finding myself thinking of a column that Sars of Tomato Nation wrote back in 2001 sometime. She talked about reclaiming the word "slut" as a positive thing. I agreed with her then and still do. Lots of others have done the same; witness "The Ethical Slut" and other sites of similar predilections.

So, I guess my suggestion would be "slut" as a positive word (applies to both men and women). The question, then, is what word to use for a negative? Speaking personally I have always disliked the word "whore"; it just even has a negative TASTE to it. So that's my suggestion (again, it applies to men and women).
