“Hey Nelson X, I need you to write something about big beautiful women.  Have it done in twenty minutes.  Got it?

“Sure thing, Mr. Miller.  Anything you’d like me to focus on?  Our magazine is supposed to be about marketing adult products, right?”

“Eh, whatever.  As long as we can mention lots of fat-girl videos it’s all good.”

Perhaps a conversation like this one took place between author Nelson X and editor Dan Miller before the publication of AVN’s  “The $500 Stocking Guide:  Fattening Up Sales.”   I can’t link directly to it, but you can skip to page 82 of the Retail News:  Merchandising section and enjoy reading it for yourself.

Or maybe you won’t enjoy it so much.  I certainly didn’t, after learning about it via Good Vibrations Magazine and then reading Fatty D’s excellent response:  Heifers, Bovines and Baconators.

While Nelson X’s remarks seem designed to heap maximum ridicule on bigger women and the people who dig them, I found myself after reading it more baffled than anything else.  Surely there’s a better way to encourage the marketing of BBW niche films.  Surely they can be spoken of with respect and passion instead of derision.

So I decided to attempt a brief rewrite of Nelson X’s piece.  While it’s not a word-for-word redo, perhaps it manages to convey the same ideas in a more positive way:

In the past, BBW movies received far less respect than they deserved.  Shot on a shoestring budget, most featured ample women getting screwed (badly) by less than stellar actors and in the very lamest locations.  But now things are changing.  Today many of the industry’s mainstream studios are devoting top-notch production values to these films, allowing those who love larger ladies the opportunity to jack off to women who embody their ideal of feminine beauty.

After exchanging actresses’ nondescript, loose-fitting clothes for high-end lingerie, provocative fetish wear and bikinis, studios now showcase Rubenesque women as glamor models.  This trend crosses all racial and fetish lines.  Choices abound for men who prefer their thick chicks black or white and getting nasty with men who are black or white.  Studios are building loyal followings by demonstrating what some of us have known all along:  Large women have as much fun in the sack as do their thin counterparts.

Many studios dish out extensive libraries of titles for resellers intent on increasing BBW sales.  They coax awesome performances from the most gorgeous curvy chicks in the biz, making it easy to serve up these sexy products to consumers who crave them.

At a time when the country’s broke and people turn toward more realistic and less idealistic thoughts, videos featuring lovely big women remind us that a performer don’t doesn’t (Thanks for the catch and the linkey-luv at The SmackDog Chronicles) have to look like the stereotypical porn-star in order to leave her fans begging for seconds.

  1. THIS is a great response.

  2. And they wonder why dieting is so dangerously popular…

  3. As one dating a BBW (although I hate that term for some reason or another, I must admit), I am often saddened that they don’t get a whole lot of love, and are very worthy of it. Thanks for rewriting the piece indeed… I’ve been a BBW fan for a very long time now and don’t see that ever changing.

Was excited when I saw your post title too! :)

  4. Ilove big women i love to give them the oral attention they deserve with slow long licks

  5. Ah, John, you’re so generous! But what if those women prefer fast short licks? Can you provide that too?

    :: eye roll ::

  6. Go you! Perfect response!!

*shakes her ample booty with glee*

  7. as a bbw myself… I’m glad someone is finally sticking up for us… we’re big, we’re beautiful, and we’re here to stay… Thanks AAG!

  8. Brava!! *applause*

  9. Much better article. Thank you.

  10. * Will provide the type & variety of licks, that the Lady prefers, On Demand*

  11. Wow, what an asshole. That article was horrifying. But the response and your rewrite were AWESOME. Brilliant rewrite, and I really with that had been run instead.
*Shakes her ample booty at Friend Around the Corner and entices her to join her in doing “The Bump”*

  12. That’s the spirit, thisoneguy! :-*

  13. The rewrite is fab.

I was really astounded at this sorry attempt to market a genre that has a serious following.

But, Nelson X is responisble for some of the worst and most degrading to women porn on the market. (see Chatsworth Pictures, he is Grip Johnson)

    Thank you for this post!

  14. Nelson X is a social satirist of the highest order. You simply don’t get it.

Besides, if you really want to show love for the BBW community, don’t you think it’d be best to reject a title as shockingly hilarious as PLUMPER HUMPERS or LIFE IN THE FAT LANE?

  15. A social satirist of the highest order? You must be kidding me.

This is social satire of the highest order.

Satire ridicules folly in order to correct it. Nelson’s not ridiculing the folly of bustin’ on large people. He’s ridiculing large people and those who enjoy them. There is a difference. And it seems particularly stupid to ridicule those folks in an article meant to teach retailers how to market to them.

  16. A glowing review for PreggoAbuse.com (Miscarriage or Bust!); IR is Recession Proof; BBW; and more if you look for it.

How long till people who call themselves “sex-positive” stop associating with and patronizing AVN?

  17. I like AVN Novelty, and I really do read it for the articles when people like Jamye Waxman are the ones writing them. But this? Wow.

AVN’s star seems to be – dare I say it – falling. With the ANME show now eclipsing the AVN trade show, which appeared to be hemmoraging attendees this year in comparison to last, they seem to have lost sight of the personalized trend the industry’s taken, especially with articles like that.

The titles and attitudes towards BBW porn need to be altered – they are referenced and marketed like game animals to hunting safaris.

But then, the same can be said for other minorities – african american, asian, and the like. Porn, and all things associated, are too often dragged down in the lowest common denominator phenomena. :(

  18. Gosh, thanks, AAG. I love being the highest order of just about anything, but satire is one of the nearest and dearest to my heart. I deeply appreciate the props.

  19. If you can’t see it, it doesn’t mean it’s not there. Why shoot the messenger simply because you don’t like the message?

Nelson X knows what he’s doing, and he definitely wasn’t expecting the Pit Roast that came to be after a few hyper-sensitive types projected their own failings and self-loathing onto his piece. Just because something is worded in a way you don’t like doesn’t mean that it’s completely negative or condescending in its’ viewpoints.

  20. Dear Frank,

If I were the only one to have read Nelson X’s piece that way I might think you had a point. However, I wasn’t the only one. In fact even Paul Fishbein felt the article was inappropriate.

When something is worded in a way I don’t like, it’s perfectly reasonable for me to criticize it. And if you’ll notice, I didn’t complain about being offended by the piece. I said instead that it’s terrible marketing advice.

  21. Nelson X was, in fact, refreshingly candid in what he wrote. The new wave of BBW porn is no different from the crap that preceded it, except the women are larger. But whatever size the women, what AVN sells will be produced, package and marketed in the same sleazy, demeaning way they do everything else. It’s not AVN’s fault for telling it like it is, it’s your fault for paying attention.

  22. Greetings, AAG!

Thank you for speaking out of the prejudice.

Interestingly, your top sponsor there in the sidebar categorically refuses to even DO BDSM porn with fat girls.

And one of their riggers considers a size 12 woman who is 5’7″ to be a “big girl.”

I’d be interested to see your take them on as well.

    Love

    Mollena

  23. Kink.com does? Orly. Inneresting.

    Thanks Mollena.
