“It’s weird…”

“What’s weird, honey?”

“It’s weird that grown-ups take off their clothes together.”

“Why do you think that’s weird?”

“Because kids are the ones who take off their clothes in front of each other.  For baths, or changing clothes, or Naked Time.*  Parents are supposed to keep their clothes on.  All the time!”

“Hm.  It feels good when you get to be naked, right?”

“Yes!  But kids do that!”

“Hm.  So do adults, sometimes, when they love each other.”

“Ok.”

*pause*

“But it’s just weird.”

******

*A childish tradition wherein they are allowed (at their request) to strip down and run about willy-nilly for some set period, generally just before or after bath time.

Aw man…and here I thought they were spending their time running around challenging people to duels and singing “I’ll Take You Home Again Cathlene. Imagine my disappointment.

Naked Time is a cherished tradition around our house and, ironically enough, Rupert, the 5-year-old has been trying to induce an element of duel to it, running about wielding a “life saver” (light saber), sword or invisible nunchucks. There’s something just so cute about a naked, aggressively homicidal kid running around, i know i’m gonna miss it when he grows up.

OMG, we have light savers too!

Good for you for being a supportive, nurturing, and body-positive parent. So many of us, in our generation, grew up with fears, worries, anxieties, repression. Your child will grow up understanding that there is a difference between shame and discretion, between consent and manipulation.

Go you.

it is something that i have been thinking about recently .. when is it inappropriate to be naked around your children? i am .. every day, as the door to the family bathroom is rarely closed, and they strip (at this time of year) at any opportunity .. i don’t wish to embarrass my boys, but i would like them to be relaxed with nudity.

She is too cute.

best part about the internet is watching alwaysarousedgirl turn into alwaysboringgirl.

that’s okay though.

Dear Matt,

Perhaps your browser features a small button at the top with an arrow pointing to the left? That’s your “back” button. I suggest that you use it.

Better yet, start you own blog detailing your sexual adventures. I’m sure it will be most awesomely awesome.

Sincerely,

aag

Huh? Speak for yourself, matt.

I love these posts about your kids, aag. Not only because I adore cute stories about things kids say — I can’t deny that — but they really do illustrate how sex isn’t just something that affects us only behind closed doors.

It sneaks in everywhere! At least it does, if you let it, which I think most readers here would agree is healthier than *trying* to keep it all bottled up and hidden.

Hmmmm. When I need alone time away from my (admittedly, teenaged) boys, I say, “Okay, I’m going to get naked now, on the count of three… one, two…. “, and suddenly, I have the privacy I’ve been longing for.

I must be doing this parenting thing wrong. :)

For the record, I think adults should also have special, designated Naked Time. :D

I do.

Doesn’t everyone?

It’s so funny that “Naked Time” is such a common kid thing. We actually call it Nudie Time here. It involves a naked toddler running around the house like crazy for 5 or 10 minutes usually yelling “NUDIE NUDIE NUDIE”.
