Mom, reads with boy baby: What’s this?

Boy: Mah-key!

Mom: And what’s this?

Boy: Cay-yow!

Mom: And this?

Boy silently shrugs, looks down shyly.

Me: What is this, baby?

Boy shrugs, smiles and looks up playfully.

Me: Is it a hippopotamus?

Boy nods.

Mom: Can you say it? Hip-o-pot-a-mus?

Boy smiles: Mom-us?

Mom giggles: Say it again! Hip-o-pot-a-mus.

Boy: Hi-mom-us!

Mom: What is it?

Boy, fully engaged now: Hip-om-mus! Hip-mom-a-pus! Hi-mop-a-pus! Mom-a-pus! Mop-a-mum-mus! Ma-mom-a-pus! Ah-mom-a-mus! Hip-om-mom-a-pus! Hip-oh-mom-a-pus!

Mom: That’s it baby!

Boy runs full-tilt around room screaming: Hip-oh-mom-a-pus! Hip-oh-mom-a-pus! Hip-oh-mom-a-pus! Hip-oh-mom-a-pus! Hip-oh-mom-a-pus!

Mom dies from the cute.

How old is he? :)

Oh how cute. I miss my boys being little and cute. Now all they do is see if they can hurt each other and yell at me for not punishing the one they think started it.

Oh mine do that too. :) –aag

Awwww! Kids are awesome. I’m sure it’s moments like that which make it all worth while.

That’s so cute. Don’t you wish you could video tape those moments? And keep them forever.

Love you babe.

Hip-oh-mom-a-pus? Isn’t that the procedure women get when they need things tightened after a few child births?

Isn’t the correct term hip-oh-mom-a-pus-ect-tomy or maybe it’s hip-oh-mom-a-pus-plas-tomy?

I’m not sure. I’ve had no medical training or actually training of any other kind - at least that I want to speak of.

Haaaaaaa

Awwwww! That’s so sweet.

Can I recommend “The Hippopotamus Song” by Flanders and Swann? It has the rousing chorus,

‘Mud, mud, glorious mud,
Nothing quite like it for cooling the blood.
So, follow me, follow,
Down to the hollow,
Ad there let us wallow
In glorious mud’.
Mind you, the bit about mud mightn’t be such a good idea if your kids like mess :o)

They come to teach.

That is SO cute! :]

I am at a Parent & Child Drop-In center a few days a week, and this reminded me of one of the kids there that pronounces caterpillar as ‘cap-a-till-er’. He does it with such enthusiasm that it makes me giggle every time.

1. I used to say catapillar as callapitter. Hee! I’m apparantly related to that boy in the previous comment.

2. I am ded from teh kewt. *flops over*

I know it’s not QUITE the season… but this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtqIM_bPTws) is the funniest song ever and I bet the young’uns would love it!

How did you manage to get a hold of some of the cutest kids in the world?! haha

That actually made me laugh out loud. Really.

Mine calls ‘em ‘hippo-hummus”

I have two myself and my favorite is when my five year old, who learned about Martin Luther King Jr. in kindergarten calls him “Larten Moofer King”.

and she calls a Hippo “Lippo Hottamuff”

okay, now I’m worried about a possible speech impediment. But, damn, it’s just so fun and cute!
