Polaroids

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. You could also get new content delivered directly to your inbox. Thanks for stopping by!

This blog will never give a complete view of all the things that happen in my weird little life.

The most you can expect is a series of grainy, smudged Polaroids scattered across a table. The pictures aren’t necessarily chronological. They aren’t panoramic. The quality is extremely variable. If you want every detail in a timely fashion, you’ll need a different sort of blog than this one.

And please let me assure you that if ever I gave you all the details, you would be bored to tears. You would click the back button and never return. All the details are not interesting. They are tedious.

Trust me on this one. I’m living all the details. They can be tedious.

Y’all ask for details and I ration them out to you, like a mother giving out pieces of candy instead of the whole basket. I do this because I know that too much would make you sick and unhappy and regretful. I do this because candy tastes better when you savor it instead of gorging on it.

Please know that I’m doing the best I can both to assuage my need to make sense through words of all the current insanity of my life and to keep folks entertained.

Can we live with that?

I think you are doing a great job, because every night, I just can’t wait for the next post!!!

If you did it any other way you would not be who you are and all the aag junkies would have to resort to who knows what. Thanks mom!

You know, you seem really interesting and sexy and fun. I wish I knew you.

Skip, I think that’s the point, you just very well may in some form another.

AAG, I love how you blog. I respect how you blog. You could easily all be some fictional imaginings of a disgruntled housewife or a teen boy in his basement. But like you said in the post you linked to yesterday, it doesn’t matter. Whomever this AAG person is, I feel for her. If she’s fictional, then I commend the person writing it because it’s not easy to evoke such emotions without sound trite.

For what it’s worth, I never thought much of your blog as fictional. Perhaps timelines and details are smudged, but details are rarely important.

Yes we can!!

Isn’t it interesting to consider why we blog about our intimate lives? Yes, to make sense of chaos, to shape our narratives, and to entertain ourselves and others. But there’s also a sort of primal need to create stories/art, whether anyone reads or not.

My kids will get to eat one or two pieces of Halloween candy for the next few nights, and then the whole mess will mysteriously disappear. Later it may reappear to decorate a gingerbread house. We can transform cheap chocolate into something beautiful.

That’s the beauty of a blog…it allows you the luxury of editiing life.

Too bad the real thing doesn’t come with that option. I’d pay a bundle for it.

We can live with that. You write for your reasons. We read for ours. It’s a good deal!

I’m good with it. Thanks.

Of course I can! Too much candy would make me sick. You do an excellent job and I thank you for it.

I don’t think a blog is meant to be a complete, three-dimensional portrait of the writer. And I think, like you, that’s it probably for the best.

But I hope it makes you feel good that so many people care enough about you to want to know the details.

I love the image of the grainy, smudged Polaroids scattered across the table. Perfect.

Good Thursday afternoon AAG.

I can live with it. It’s your blog, your call.

It’s your writing that is interesting in general.

As this is the very first of your blogs i hav ever seen then I can live with anything you want to share with us.

Thank you very much xx Andy

AAG,
Just keep writing, it is always a good read!

What is fact but a consensus of opinion and what is an opinion but an interpretation of the facts?

Whether what you blog is fact, the whole truth and nothing but the truth or a patchy collection of snapshots (as you put it), it still appeals.

I’m another peron who can live with anything that you want to share, and who appreciates the things that you choose to share. Keep writing!

I love your blogging style…even if I am always greedy for more, it wouldn’t be the same any other way!

Happy Thursday!

I’m sure that anyone who says “give us details” is really saying “I love what you just wrote, I want more of that sort of stuff”. Resist the temptation to add in anything meaningless. I love the way you craft every post, your refreshing honesty and generous sharing of experience.

I want more of it, and I want it now.

If you do not breathe through writing, if you do not cry out in writing, or sing in writing, then don’t write, because our culture has no use for it.
